The Explorers Hotel, sponsor for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis.

9^th June 2014, 3 employees of The Explorers Hotel are attempting a feat regarded at best as a bit silly:  Climb the famous Mont Ventoux (The Giant of Provence) on their bikes, 3-times in one day.

Organised by a Dutch Charity (The Nationaal MS Fonds) this events brings together over 700 participants with the common goal of raising the maximum amount of money destined for research into this illness and improving the daily life of people suffering from this condition.  In 2013, the event raised over 450,000€.

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis (MS), also known as disseminated sclerosis, is an inflammatory disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged.  It affects around 1 in 2000 people in The World.

A Sporting Challenge for the Participants

Rising up to 1912m in altitude Mont Ventoux nicknamed The Giant of Provence is found in the South East of France in the Vaucluse.  Regularly climbed in the Tour de France Mont Ventoux is widely feared and respected by every professional racing cyclist.  The mountain is well known amongst British Cyclists due to the tragic death on its slopes of Tom Simpson during the 1967 Tour de France.
To climb the mountain 3-times in the same day, by the 3 different routes constitutes a real physical challenge for the cyclists.

A Financial Challenge to Support People with MS and their relatives

For each participant the goal is not only to defend a cause namely the fight against MS, but also to raise the maximum funds for scientific research as well as for the moral and technical support for people touched by this condition.  As a sponsor of this event The Explorers Hotel is proud to lend its financial and moral support to our 3 employees who will represent us on 9^th June 2014.
